Ravens Draft Night 2023
Interview with Former Baltimore Ravens Cornerback, Jimmy Smith #22

Ravens Draft Night: 1st Round
The night of the NFL draft for the Baltimore Ravens on April of 2023 in the First round. The players are dressed and pressed to be selected to a team to play. Throughout the night we have seen many trades and smokescreens by teams throughout the NFL. However, with the Ravens limited picks in this draft and the resigning of QB Lamar Jackson to a long-term extension, shows that the Ravens are happy where they are as far as personnel.
The Baltimore Ravens had the 22nd pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and all signs pointed towards drafting a Wide Receiver in the 1st round considering they needed depth and another guy to be the Y wide receiver (Number two wide receiver on the depth chart) while Odell Beckham Jr will more than likely be the X receiver (Number one wide receiver on the depth chart), but we needed to know who that would be. On my mock draft for the 2023 NFL draft, I had Jordan Addison headed to Baltimore and here is why:
He was born and raised in Frederick, MD so therefore he was a hometown guy.
Came with a pedigree of skills from Pitt and then USC.
He is 6ft tall with blazing speed with route running skills.
He had 1593 yards in his sophomore season in NCAA football.
Instead, they drafted Zay Flowers and left Jordan on the board. Zay Flowers is a good receiver with good upside to complement Odell. Here is why:
He is 5’10” tall with 35.5” vertical jump.
He ran the 40 yard dash in 4.42 seconds.
In his senior year he had 1077 yards and 12 touchdowns on 78 receptions.
He was 1st Team All-ACC Selection out of Boston College.
Former players and fans had the thought of the Baltimore Ravens drafting a CB (Cornerback) or Offensive lineman considering the holes they had on defense and also losing players on the offensive line. I had a chance to catch up former Ravens CB, Jimmy Smith, and I had asked him if the Ravens could not get Christian Gonzalez, who would he draft and he said “Joey Porter Jr just for the fact that his father is Joey Porter” and because there are “big, long, rangy kids coming out”. I also asked him about Marcus Peters and he claims that “if the Ravens can work out the numbers then he will be back”. He also though the Ravens would trade away the pick but the Ravens had other plans decided not to trade away. Gonzalez went 17 to the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens drafted the best player available. Jimmy Smith had said that the Ravens tend to draft players who are the best available and now they have Zay.
When you look at draft night in the 1st round for the Baltimore Ravens, they drafted what I always knew. Which was they were going to draft a wide receive in light of the fact that they had resigned Lamar Jackson to a 5 year, 260 million dollar deal. Due to that resigning, they had to draft some weapons for Lamar to be successful for the upcoming. Essentially, the Lamar Jackson signing had changed the trajectory of what the Ravens would draft in the 1st round and essentially for the rest of the draft.
